Why a Father's Day keepsake

The shirt in the closet no one can bear to donate.

Dads leave behind a uniform — a favorite flannel, the work shirt with his name patch, the sweatshirt that outlived three washing machines. A Stitched Memory keepsake is made from those. The kind of Father's Day gift that survives after the tie and the golf balls have been forgotten.

What to send

The clothes every dad keeps forever

One garment is enough for a single keepsake. Sending two or more pieces Katie can combine is a small +$20 upgrade — because piecing the story together by hand takes noticeably longer at the machine.

His favorite flannel

Cotton flannel is our favorite fabric to work with. Soft, textured, and it holds the shape of him. Even a threadbare one — Katie can piece around the holes.

Work shirts and uniform tops

With his name patch, the logo, the union number. Cotton uniform shirts piece beautifully and carry an enormous amount of identity in a small surface.

A well-loved sweatshirt

The one he wore every weekend for ten years. Soft cotton-blends, screen prints included. Pockets and drawstrings usually come along for the ride.

Ties and button-downs

The tie from every wedding he stood up in. A dress shirt from church. Silk ties can be incorporated as detail panels; cotton button-downs become the body of the keepsake.

A note on fabric: Cotton, wool, flannel, and cotton blends work beautifully. Slick modern athletic polyester (most pro-style dri-fit jerseys) doesn't piece cleanly. If you're unsure, send Katie a photo first — she's happy to tell you what will work.

The finished keepsake arrives with a sewn-in NFC tag that opens a private gallery — a place for the old photos, the fishing trips, the voicemails that nobody thought to save anywhere else.

Father's Day questions

The ones families ask most

What makes a good Father's Day keepsake — flannel or something else?
Cotton flannel is almost always the best starting point — it is textured, soft, and recognizable. Work shirts with a name patch or union logo are a close second. The goal is something a family member would spot in a photo and say 'that's his' without being told.
Can I make a keepsake for a Father's Day that already passed?
Absolutely. A lot of families commission the keepsake weeks or months after Father's Day — especially if it is the first one without him. The story does not have a deadline, and a keepsake that arrives in late June or July is no less meaningful than one that arrives on the 21st.
What if Dad is hard to buy for?
Dads who say they do not want anything usually mean they do not want more stuff. A keepsake made from his own flannel is the exception to that rule. It is not a gift that adds to the clutter — it is one that puts forty years of shirt into a form he can keep on the shelf by his chair.
What kinds of clothing work best?
Cotton shirts, flannel, soft knits, baby clothes, team tees, cotton-blend hoodies. Slick modern athletic polyester (most dri-fit jerseys) does not piece cleanly. If you are unsure about something, send Katie a photo first — she is happy to tell you what will work and what will not.
How long does it take?
Four to six weeks from the day your clothing arrives at the studio, plus about a week of shipping on each end. For time-sensitive gifts we recommend starting at least sixty days before the date — earlier is always better than a rush.
What if I want a keepsake after the date has passed?
Every bit as meaningful — often more so, once the moment has settled. A lot of families commission keepsakes weeks or months after the holiday, the service, or the milestone. The story does not have a deadline.
