Stitched Memory
New Baby

The onesies they outgrew,
stitched into something they'll keep.

by Katie

A handcrafted keepsake bear or pup made from baby clothes — the coming-home outfit, a favorite onesie, the hand-me-down that carried three cousins. A baby-shower or first-birthday gift the family keeps long after the nursery is gone.

Why a new-baby keepsake

Baby clothes do not get thrown away — but they do get lost.

Every family keeps a box of baby clothes for a decade, then loses it in a move. A Stitched Memory keepsake made from a few of those outfits becomes a permanent version of the box — soft, cotton, on a shelf, still there when the child is an adult asking about what they looked like at six months.

What to send

Baby-specific favorites

One garment is enough for a single keepsake. Sending two or more pieces Katie can combine is a small +$20 upgrade — because piecing the story together by hand takes noticeably longer at the machine.

The coming-home outfit

Usually the single most-asked-about piece. Cotton onesies piece beautifully. A single outfit is enough for one keepsake.

Hand-me-downs with family history

If this is baby number two, three, or a multi-generational hand-me-down — the shirt that has dressed three cousins becomes a keepsake carrying all of them.

A first-birthday outfit

The dress, the onesie, the suspenders. First-birthday outfits photograph well and piece into a keepsake the child can have the whole life.

A handmade piece

If grandma knitted or sewed something for the baby, a piece of her handwork stitched into a keepsake bridges two generations in one object.

A note on fabric: Cotton, wool, flannel, and cotton blends work beautifully. Slick modern athletic polyester (most pro-style dri-fit jerseys) doesn't piece cleanly. If you're unsure, send Katie a photo first — she's happy to tell you what will work.

How it works

From a stack of clothing to something they'll keep

Turnaround is four to six weeks from the day your clothing arrives at Katie's studio, plus shipping.

01

Send the clothes

Pick the garments that carry the story. We send a prepaid label; you pack and ship.

02

Katie stitches it by hand

Each keepsake is cut and sewn one at a time. Pockets, logos, buttons, patches — every detail that made the garment theirs is placed with intention.

03

Theirs to keep

The finished keepsake arrives with a sewn-in NFC tag that opens a private gallery — the hospital photos, the first-year videos, the voicemails from proud grandparents, all in one place that does not live on a phone.

New Baby questions

The ones families ask most

Is this a baby-shower gift or a first-birthday gift?
Both. For a shower, the family usually sends a single onesie or blanket after baby arrives and the gift lands around month three. For first birthdays, we work with a stack of the outfits from the first year. Either works beautifully — tell us your timing and we will help you plan around it.
I do not want to mail baby clothes. Can I drop them off?
If you are within driving distance of Jasper or Woodstock, GA — yes, reach out and we will set up a drop-off. Otherwise, every shipment is tracked and insured both ways; we have not lost a single package of baby clothes and we treat them with the care the story deserves.
What kinds of clothing work best?
Cotton shirts, flannel, soft knits, baby clothes, team tees, cotton-blend hoodies. Slick modern athletic polyester (most dri-fit jerseys) does not piece cleanly. If you are unsure about something, send Katie a photo first — she is happy to tell you what will work and what will not.
How long does it take?
Four to six weeks from the day your clothing arrives at the studio, plus about a week of shipping on each end. For time-sensitive gifts we recommend starting at least sixty days before the date — earlier is always better than a rush.
What if I want a keepsake after the date has passed?
Every bit as meaningful — often more so, once the moment has settled. A lot of families commission keepsakes weeks or months after the holiday, the service, or the milestone. The story does not have a deadline.
