Stitched Memory
Pet Memorial

The blanket they slept on,
stitched into something you can hold.

by Katie

A handcrafted keepsake dog made from a pet's blanket, bed cover, or a favorite sweatshirt they curled up on every night. Quietly handmade for the families carrying a loss that no greeting card aisle has a section for.

Why a pet memorial keepsake

The bed in the corner that no one moves.

The hardest part of losing a pet is how much of them is still in the house — the bowl in the cupboard, the bed in the corner, the blanket on the back of the couch. A Stitched Memory keepsake gives that fabric somewhere to go. Not a display piece on the mantel — something with weight to it, in a lap, in the shape of the friend who isn't there to greet you anymore.

What to send

What to send

One garment is enough for a single keepsake. Sending two or more pieces Katie can combine is a small +$20 upgrade — because piecing the story together by hand takes noticeably longer at the machine.

Their blanket or bed cover

The blanket from their crate, the cover from their dog bed, the throw they claimed as theirs years ago. These are the fabrics that carry the most of them — the places they slept, the places they curled up.

A human sweatshirt they made theirs

The hoodie they pulled off the laundry pile. The throw on the couch you found a dog hair on for three years after. Soft cotton holds the form of where they were.

Their travel piece

The towel from the back seat, the camping blanket, the throw from the camper. The fabric that smells like every road trip they ever took.

A working or service piece

A service vest, a working harness liner, the bandana they wore on hikes. Anything soft enough to piece — Katie can work around the stiff straps and buckles.

A note on fabric: Cotton, wool, flannel, and cotton blends work beautifully. Slick modern athletic polyester (most pro-style dri-fit jerseys) doesn't piece cleanly. If you're unsure, send Katie a photo first — she's happy to tell you what will work.

How it works

From a stack of clothing to something they'll keep

Turnaround is four to six weeks from the day your clothing arrives at Katie's studio, plus shipping.

01

Send the clothes

Pick the garments that carry the story. We send a prepaid label; you pack and ship.

02

Katie stitches it by hand

Each keepsake is cut and sewn one at a time. Pockets, logos, buttons, patches — every detail that made the garment theirs is placed with intention.

03

Theirs to keep

The finished keepsake arrives quietly, ready to hold — hand-cut and hand-sewn one at a time, in memory of the dog whose blanket you sent. The worn softness of the fleece they slept on kept in the seams. Not a display piece on the mantel. Something with weight to it, in the shape of a dog, yours to keep close.

Pet Memorial questions

The ones families ask most

Can a memorial keepsake really be made from a dog blanket?
Yes — pet blankets and bedding are some of the most common starting fabric we work with. Fleece, cotton, and cotton-blend bed covers piece beautifully. Even pieces that are worn, stained, or carry pet hair are workable — Katie is careful with fragile spots and treats the fabric the way you'd want.
What if the blanket has holes or is really worn?
Old and well-loved is usually a better source than something pristine — threadbare fleece holds more of them than a never-used backup. Katie pieces around small holes; for very fragile fabric she'll tell you honestly what's possible and what isn't before starting.
Will it look like my dog?
The Loyal Pup is a shape that reads unmistakably as a dog — floppy ears, long snout, soft belly. It is not a custom likeness sculpt; it's the silhouette of a dog made from the fabric that carries them. Most families find that is exactly what they wanted — the form is recognizably dog, the fabric is recognizably theirs.
Can I send a sweatshirt instead of a blanket?
Absolutely. The sweatshirt they slept on, the hoodie they dragged off the laundry pile, the throw they hogged on the couch — any soft cotton or cotton-blend works. A lot of the pet keepsakes we make are built from a piece their human wore, not theirs.
What about a memorial keepsake for a cat?
The Loyal Pup is specifically dog-shaped, so it is not the right form for a cat keepsake. The Signature Bear and Cuddle Bear are shape-neutral and can be made from a cat's blanket, bed cover, or a favorite sweater they curled up on. Email Katie first if you are considering a cat memorial and we'll talk through what would work best.
How long does it take?
Four to six weeks from when your fabric arrives at the studio, plus shipping. Pet loss does not have a deadline — many families commission a keepsake weeks or months after the loss, and the timing makes no difference to the meaning.
How private is the process?
Every commission is handled one at a time. Your fabric is not mixed with anyone else's — one family's pieces on the cutting table at a time. We confirm every detail with you before cutting. Any remnants are returned or respectfully discarded per your preference.
